Nowhere Lodge - Millbrook, Ontario
Brick restoration on the facade of the "Nowhere Lodge" in Millbrook, Ontario. Spalling bricks were replaced, mortar joints repointed, and cracked bricks were also replaced due to differential settlement creating a structural crack. Lime-based mortars were used for longevity. This building is a recognized heritage edifice, designed by the architects A. Wood & K. Kells circa 1875. Yellow heritage bricks are no longer in production, so replacements had to be cut to size. The building, with restored brickwork, is featured in a CBC television movie, an adaption of Stephen Leacock's "Sunshine Sketches of a Small Town."
